Friends has become a member school of the Mastery Transcript Consortium
(MTC), a network of public and private schools working to modernize the traditional high school transcript from its current structure - which was developed more than one hundred years ago to capture the more standardized outcomes of an Industrial Age education – to one that better aligns with the qualities needed for success in the 21st century and more fully reflects the unique skills, strengths, and interests of each learner. Participation in the MTC will allow the School to help shape the national conversation around high school assessment and bring it into line with the demands of the modern world and the emergent science informing mind-brain education.
“As educators, we know that we can and must find a system that serves children more effectively than the current approach to education and credentialing does,” says Head of School Matt Micciche. “What’s most exciting about joining the Mastery Transcript Consortium is that Friends will be involved in leading-edge conversations about what the future of education needs to look like, side by side with some of the finest schools
in the nation. Our membership in the MTC is a once-in-a-century opportunity to help reshape the very nature of teaching and learning for future generations of students at Friends and beyond.”
